| | Qualifications and Experience
After obtaining a B.Soc.Sc. majoring in Economics and Psychology I completed three more degrees in clinical psychology: an Honours degree, a Masters degree and a Doctors degree.
My doctoral research was in the field of stress and coping, an area in which I retain a special interest. I have presented numerous talks, lectures, workshops and courses on stress and stress management. I have also been a university lecturer in psychology.
Following my first job as a locomotive fireman (to finance my university studies) I worked in Economics and Human Resources before qualifying as a Clinical Psychologist. I have worked as a fully qualified Clinical Psychologist for more than twenty years.
Most of my experience in clinical psychology has been in the field of Adult Mental Health.
Help Offered
I can help with the full spectrum of conditions normally seen by a clinical psychologist working in Adult Mental Health.
I am skilled in Individual, Couple, Family, and Group Therapy.
Theoretical Orientation
With clinical experience comes flexibility and diversity, and an appreciation that no one approach to mental health treatment holds all the answers. I aim to match therapy to the person using a technically eclectic approach based upon a careful assessment at our first meeting. My therapy is mainly cognitive-behavioural but can draw upon a wide repertoire of therapeutic methods where necessary, including those of psychodynamic therapy. Effective psychotherapy is a creative process that benefits from a breadth of therapeutic knowledge and skill.
Cost-effectiveness is always a primary consideration and therapy is typically focused and brief.
Our First Meeting
At our first meeting we will talk in detail about your difficulties. This will help me to build up a picture of what is troubling you. I will ask questions to help you describe and understand your problems.
You will not be forced to discuss anything you do not wish to talk about. |
